Malagouzia 2021 (Costa Lazaridi)

Founded between the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, the emblematic Costa Lazaridi winery is located in Drama, a Greek wine area in the Eastern Macedonia region. The Malagouzia of the Domaine Costa Lazaridi is a wine with a good personality and a lively fruitiness. The grapes of Malagouzia, an aromatic white variety grown mainly in central Greece, come from the Katafyto vineyard, one of the northernmost in the country, located 900 meters above sea level, and characterized by low yields and a special microclimate. Part of the grapes is fermented and aged in French oak barrels. This step gives volume and structure to the wine. The wine shows a pale lemon color with greenish hues and the typical aromas of the variety: lemon, peach, grapefruit, lime, unripe pineapple, and then white flowers, and aromatic herbs. On the palate, the wine has a medium body and lively citrus acidity. It is juicy with a good concentration of stone fruit and notes of lemon flowers. The finish is long and fresh. It makes an excellent aperitif, but it also pairs very well with green salads, herb soups, vegetarian tarts and delicate creamy cheeses such as Manouri or Brie.
